How to Claim a Business on Google
So, you want to know how Google My Business (now called your Google Business Profile) can help you generate 50 unique leads each month? The good news is this is an easy win in marketing! In today’s blog we are going to discuss why leads are important, how your Google Business Profile helps generate leads, and how to claim or create your listing if you haven’t yet.
Why Do I Need to Generate Leads?
Simply put, generating leads creates sales and is key to driving organic traffic. When you have a lead, or someone who has shown interest in your product or service, it is crucial to nurture these leads and guide them down the sales funnel towards the ultimate outcome which is making a sale. More good news: there’s a platform that has made the process of connecting people to businesses easier. Can you guess what that platform is? That’s right - Google! Google allows you to target those actively searching for your product or service via a search engine. And by taking the lead directly to your website it increases the chance of the lead purchasing from your business. This is where your Google Business Profile comes into play.
How Does My Google Business Profile Help Generate Leads?
Based on a study done of 45,000 anonymous Google My Business listings, the average business is found in 1009 searches per month. Further, 5% of Google My Business listing views resulted in a call, click or request for directions. Multiply those together and you’ll see that you have the potential to receive an average of 50 contacts from customers each month! So, basically, if you haven’t claimed your Google Business Profile, or worst case scenario, there hasn’t even been a listing created for your business, then you could be missing out! If you’re slightly panicking at this point - don’t! Claiming or creating your Google Business Profile is an easy process and can only take a few minutes! Refer to the next section for a step-by-step guide on how to claim or create your Google Business Profile.
How to Claim Your Business on Google
- Search for your business on Google.
- If it shows up as a box with photos, contact info, and reviews (what we marketing nerds call a “knowledge graph”), click on “Own this Business” and follow the directions to verify your account.
- If your business doesn’t show up when you search for it, visit business.google.com to set up your account from scratch!
- To verify your account you may get a verification code via text, email, or an old-fashioned postcard. Once you have the code, enter it into the verification field and voila! You now have full access to your listing and you can verify that all your info is correct so customers can connect with you!
- If those verification methods are not working, Google now offers phone and video call verification.
